FLIGHT TEAM

The flight teams were required to construct a parachute which causes the CanSat to descend at a speed of 8m/s-11m/s at terminal velocity. They went through multiple designs to reach the optimal speed of descent. Finding a parachute design, they used a formula to find out the dimensions of the parachute. After testing, they created a new design, which was the correct size and shape. To test the parachutes, a can was filled with 355mL of water, and lifted into the air using a drone. It was then dropped by a remote control controlling a servo motor. The time it took to descend was measured, as well as the approximate altitude it was dropped from using trigonometry. The parachute was important because it allowed the sensors to make enough measurements during the descent.
